On Friday, 28 May, Poczta Polska is introducing a postage stamp of the “European Athletics Team Championships Silesia 2021” issue. The stamp, released by the National Postal Operator, is part of the activities aimed at promoting the biggest athletics event in the Old Continent, which this year, just like two years ago, is taking place in Poland.

The official presentation of the stamp, which took place on 27 May, was attended by Anna Krupka – Secretary of State at the Ministry of Sport, President of Poczta Polska Tomasz Zdzikot, Bartłomiej Kowalski – CEO of the Local Executive Committee of the European Athletics Team Championships Silesia 2021 and Tomasz Majewski – Vice President of the Polish Athletics Association.

The stamp depicts Anita Włodarczyk and Paweł Fajdek – titled representatives of Poland in hammer throw. The silhouettes of the athletes are highlighted in vivid gold, which refers to their successes and the desire to defend the highest step of the podium for the whole athletics team. The background of the stamp features the Silesian Stadium – the place where the European competitors will compete – along with the cityscape. In addition to the stamp, Poczta Polska has issued, in a limited version, an FDC envelope, i.e. First Day Cover envelope. It depicts the interior of the arena of this year’s competition.

The Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport supports all activities which contribute to strengthening Poland’s role as an organizer of major sports events. We are perceived as a serious and reliable partner with which the largest federations and international organizations want to cooperate. We are very happy about it and we will certainly not stop our support at this event. I am convinced that there are many more similar sports events before us, and thus numerous opportunities for further issues of postage stamps and for further cooperation with Poczta Polska – Anna Krupka, Deputy Minister of Culture, National Heritage, and Sports, said.

Thanks to our philatelic activity, we can promote the most important sports and cultural events. The rivalry of European athletes will once again take place in Poland. I am extremely happy that Poczta Polska can join the celebration of European Athletics Team Championships and be a part of this extraordinary project. I very much hope that our representatives will once again confirm their dominance in the Old Continent and defend the gold medal – Tomasz Zdzikot, CEO of Poczta Polska, said.

European Athletics Team Championships is a unique celebration of sport. Firstly, the Polish team will try to defend the title of the champion of the Old Continent that it won two years ago. Secondly, we will be able to host fans in the stands, whose cheering will certainly motivate the Polish team to fight. I am glad that we were able to cooperate with Poczta Polska in organizing this event. Not every event receives such a unique distinction as a postage stamp. We managed to do it and I am very proud of that – Bartłomiej Kowalski, CEO of the Local Executive Committee of the European Athletics Team Championships Silesia 2021, said.

Both stars – Anita Włodarczyk and Paweł Fajdek really liked the stamp released by Poczta Polska. – This is the second stamp I have been on and I have to admit that it is a great feeling. I liked the color scheme with the golden accent and I am sure that this issue will remind us about the extraordinary event for years to come – Anita Włodarczyk said. – On the stamp I liked the visible emotions: from pride in the represented discipline to the joy of the new achievements. I think that the project reflects perfectly what we will be able to admire during two days of competition in the Silesian Stadium – Paweł Fajdek added.

The European Athletics Team Championships are a direct continuation of the European Athletics Cup. Since 2015 they have been organized in a two-year cycle. In 2019, the competition was held in Bydgoszcz, and our team won a gold medal. This year’s edition will be held on 29 and 30 May at the Silesian Stadium. The Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport supports the organization of championship events and international qualifying competitions for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in Polish territory in 2021. The European Team Championships received a grant of PLN 900,000. Broadcast of the event will be available on TVP Sport. The stands will be open for fans – in accordance with the current safety rules there will be 7,600 seats available.
